The Mexican Ministry of Health published today in the Official Gazette of the Federation the new parameters for the epidemiological traffic light.
Given the increase of the vaccination campaign in the country, the Ministry of Health published an agreement in the Official Gazette of the Federation in which the epidemiological traffic light by region is repealed and a new strategy is established for the opening of social, educational, and economic activities.
The new traffic light system will assess weekly the risk of the covid-19 pandemic, now related to the reopening of activities in each state.
What will change? This opening will be in three stages, through a traffic light that includes “adequate health security measures for activities in public space”. The agreement states that the new registry of population vulnerable to the coronavirus, will no longer consider people who have completed their vaccination schedule once a two-week period has passed. This means that seniors and frontline medical staff will no longer occupy that position of vulnerability in the records.
This new methodology is now official and came into force on Tuesday after its publication in the Official Journal.
Yesterday, health authorities detailed that, even though the third wave has led to an uptick in covid-19 infections in the, the number of deaths continues to fall, where the most affected are young people. That is why there is no plan to reverse the economic opening up.
